CloverLeaf Creamery - Buhl

Bill Stoltzfus was born and raised on a dairy farm. He and his wife Donna Stoltzfus own 40 acres of farm land four miles south of Buhl and have owned and operated a registered herd of Holsteins for the past 35 years.  For nearly 10 years, they had supplied the previous owner of Smith’s Dairy (now CloverLeaf Dairy) with milk.
 
They were always interested in purchasing the Smith’s business, but the timing was not right. When they were asked for the second time if they would like to buy the business, they turned to the Idaho SBDC in Twin Falls for information.

Consultant Jerry Mottern brought together a feasibility study and business projections, information a lender would require. After obtaining the financing, work began to re-start operation of the business, as it had not operated for four years.

CloverLeaf Creamery has found a niche offering locally produced, naturally. Most products are in consumers’ homes within a week of being produced.
 
They have also marketed genetics around the world with their registered herd, and in the process learned a great deal about marketing products.
 
During the first three months of business, their sales doubled each month. Sales have continued to grow from seven commercial accounts to 23, and employees have grown from 3 full-time and 1 part-time to five full-time and eight part-time.
